Math Programs

 The focus of year 3 of KEDC‘s summer K-8 Math Alliance will be the teaching of geometry in the K-8 classroom.  We will study both 3D and 2D models, find areas, perimeters, and volumes, look at transformations, and integrate these topics using literature, origami, and hands-on activities.

         Amy Jones will join us once again and provide many mathematically rich geometry problems provided by Carnegie.           The KEDC math consultants will provide hands-on activities that may be used in your classroom to convey these concepts to your students. We are looking forward to seeing you on June 22^nd -26^th each day from 8:00 am to 3:30 pm.

                   We at KEDC are very excited about our third year of the K-8 Math Alliance.  In addition to our week with Carnegie in June, we will again have three full-day large group meetings at KEDC throughout the school year, as well as our four small group meetings.  The small group sessions will be facilitated by one of the KEDC math consultants and will meet for three hours after school at locations, dates, and times to be determined by the participants.  We feel this was a great way to share what has worked for you, to troubleshoot any problems you may be having throughout the year, and to develop strong bonds among the members of your teaching community. Remember to bring your calendars so we can plan the times and/or locations of the large and small group meetings.
